DART is 501c3 not for profit animal welfare organization currently volunteer based and dedicated to rescuing former domestic and exotic pets with a focus on prosimians and homeless cats. By working with a network of zoo's, volunteers,  advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers and shelters, DART is able to rescue animals with behavioral challenges. We provide these animals with behavioral rehabilitation to reduce stress in former exotic pets and to find a loving home for domestic pets.

As part of our efforts to be a diverse organization, we welcome anyone to our team as long as you have a heart for animals.

Senior Fosters and Adopters

We have have received several inquiries from seniors within our community about adopting pets. Many times, the person is hesitant to adopt a pet because they are afraid that, if something happens to them, the pet may be left behind and end up in a bad situation. We are very excited to tell you that your age does not mean you cannot foster or adopt a pet. DART will be with you every step of the way!

As a senior citizen you have two options to be part of DART.

Adopt a Cat

DART can help you find your perfect cat. We work with many different animal shelters and rescues and we can do the search for you and with you.  We understand that these days having a pet can be quite expensive, so we are adjusting our DART adoption fees for anyone over the age of 65 to a minimum. After you adopt your cat, we can help you set up a Pet Care Plan with your family in the event that something happens to you in the future. DART will take your cat back to ensure they are safe and sound.

If you run into trouble and can no longer care for your cat,  then DART will make every effort to help you keep your cat or we will take the cat back and find it a new loving home.

Foster a Cat

Fostering is a great way to help a pet in need and be part of our team. We understand that adopting a pet may not be the ideal situation for you. By fostering, DART will take care of the bills, take your animal to the vet when needed if you cannot do it yourself and if you are a traveler we can help take care of the animal while you are away. If you are worried about a pet outliving you then this is another great option for you.

Fostering allows DART to take in animals that are unwanted and need socialization away from a shelter environment. By fostering you are helping the cat become accustomed to living in a home, you assist with observing behavior and you will work with DART to correct any unwanted behavior. When you foster,  you are also helping to make room in a local animal shelter and they are able to save more animals that way. In return, you get companionship and the satisfaction of helping an animal out without having to be concerned about a long term commitment.
